I really enjoyed today. It was my day off. Granted, I got the day off on a Monday because I worked on a Saturday. The day off was simply for the sake of preserving my weekend, but not needing to go back to work on a Monday morning is a glorious thing.
We all need a time of respite. We simply cannot always operate at full tilt and expect to be healthy, well-adjusted individuals. I have a habit of getting sick when I'm going too hard, too fast. The fact that my sinuses feel like they are going to explode and my head feels like it might split wide open is a pretty good indication that it's time to slow down. So, even though I did some church work today, I am thankful for a week day respite. And it has now driven me to make a commitment to take a couple of vacation days soon. After all, even Jesus had to go off the path of his ministry and take a breather from time to time...
After six days, Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him and led them high up a mountain, where they were all alone. - Mark 9:2
When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. - Matthew 14:13
